Becoming

Life is about the journey, it is not about "being, but becoming."

becoming…adj. fit, suitable, congruous, proper, graceful, belonging to the character or adapted to circumstances…

"This life, therefore, is not righteousness, but growth in righteousness; not health, but healing; not being, but becoming; not rest, but exercise. We are not yet what we shall be, but we are growing toward it. The process is not yet finished, but it is going on. This is not the end, but it is the road. All does not yet gleam in glory, but all is being purified."--- Martin Luther, *Defense of All the Articles*, Lazareth transl., as found in Grace Brame, *Receptive Prayer* (Chalice Press, 1985) p.119(Thank you Bella Art Girl for the quote!)

His and Her Cleansing Items

Okay, I have heard about the huge difference in the amount of products a woman uses when compared to a man. This really struck me one day when I was looking in our shower for a place to put my third bottle of shampoo, yes, my third. Each has a different purpose and is necessary=) So, I was wondering where all the space was going. Here is the breakdown:

Shared Shower Items:
  • Razor
  • Shave gel

M's Items
  • Bar of Soap-it is not shared because I opt for shower gel instead of bar soap.
  • Fogless mirror-it is up so high that I can't see into it and he uses it to shave.
  • Band-aid-gross, it is not a permanent resident, but it happened to be in here, and it isn't mine and it isn't shared, plus, his list is too short, so it counts!

H's Items

  • Shampoo #1-clarifies
  • Shampoo #2-replenishes
  • Shampoo #3-daily; and this one says right on the bottle that it can also be used as a shower gel, so maybe that should not count as another shampoo bottle.
  • Conditioner #1-daily
  • Conditioner #2-intensive
  • Bath puff/scrubber-or whatever those things are called.
  • Olive body scrub
  • Body brush-for exfoliating
  • Facial scrub
  • Facial wash
  • Pumice stone
  • Shave gel, oh M uses this, I have seen him, I am adding it to the shared list!
  • Shower gel
  • Body cleanser-alright, it is basically another shower gel, but it says "body cleanser" and I really like the smell of it.

Okay, so anyone can see that all of my items are necessary. I wonder if M would be willing to switch from that bar of soap to shower gel-I'll share! Getting rid of the bar of soap would open up a spot for my new shampoo bottle. =)hee hee

OH MY WORD, WOMAN!
Okay, so you're probably a very typical couple and it's only natural that you have that much stuff, but it made me curious and I counted our shower items. Grand total? Three! Dove soap, shampoo and my razor, that's it for the both of us. Seriously, this post threw me into at least ten minutes of profound thought.

Heather, you got me thinking about my shower... I think Bryan actually has more products than I do! :)
