Becoming

becoming…adj. fit, suitable, congruous, proper, graceful, belonging to the character or adapted to circumstances…

"This life, therefore, is not righteousness, but growth in righteousness; not health, but healing; not being, but becoming; not rest, but exercise. We are not yet what we shall be, but we are growing toward it. The process is not yet finished, but it is going on. This is not the end, but it is the road. All does not yet gleam in glory, but all is being purified."--- Martin Luther

I Declare

I declare today to be a day for cleaning out!  And for wrapping presents.  With Christmas fast approaching, it is time to go through the bedrooms and playroom* and get rid of the toys that accumulate but that aren't played with.  Or are broken.  Or unwanted.  Or that annoy me that don't seem to facilitate creative play.  ;)

In the past we have had each kids clean out their room prior to their birthday to Christmas.  That habit was set aside as sometimes clean out times were needed even when a birthday or Christmas was not approaching.  But we need a clean out day!  And today is it.

Plus, when cleaning out is paired with present wrapping, the kids are much happier and motivated.  They get to each take a turn at the present wrapping station that has been set up at the kitchen counter and wrap the presents they have bought or made for family members.  When they aren't wrapping presents they get to go through toys and decide what to part with.  So far we are making swell progress on both cleaning out and wrapping presents.  The cleaning out has come along ways from this time two years ago!

*We are on a break from school.  I notice that when we are in the full swing of school I call the space upstairs the schoolroom.  When we are on a break I tend to call it the playroom.  Occasionally I will call it the playroom/schoolroom.  Just a quirky little personal observation.

We need to do that too, it's on the calendar for next week. Today was a day off for everyone. I love getting rid of the really annoying ones.

I think that day is going to be tomorrow for me. I started the toy cleaning out last Saturday but didn't get through it all yet.

How did it go? I love that you have your kids giving and making gifts for each other. I really want to start doing that and loved it when my sister and I started giving gifts to each other. Do they save up their own money? Do you take them shopping? How do you do it?

Rebekah, they did well with cleaning out! I was pleasantly surprised.

And I will plan a post on how my kids do gift giving.
